Nebraska landed their quarterback of the future when Daniel Kaelin announced his promise to the Huskers via Twitter this afternoon. The Bellevue, Neb., West caller signed to Missouri in March before reopening his draft yesterday and quickly announcing his decision to stay home and play for the Huskers today.
Before announcing her decision, Kaelin caught up with Rivals breaking her commitment to Nebraska.
Kaelin on what it means to stay home and play for the Huskers:
“Nebraska is the school I’ve imagined myself playing for since I started playing football at the age of 8. Growing up in this state, you can’t hide from Husker football and the fans. The statewide support is as good as it gets and I can’t wait to have them behind me.”
On the coaches, players and rookies he’s connected with at Nebraska:
“I communicated the most with the coaching staff. I was in contact with the coach (Matte) Rhulecoach (Marcus) Satterfield and trainer (Adam) DiMichele most. I have a ton of confidence in these guys and the offense they’re going to lead. As a rookie in the state – I know a whole host of guys who are already on the team as well as many of their top targets – so that was also important.”
Why he ultimately chose Nebraska:
“Knowing that I will be closer to my family and the support system has been a big factor for me. The University of Nebraska is the school I have dreamed of playing at since I was young. I truly believe that the new staff will be able to propel the program forward at a rapid pace It just means more to me to know that I am playing for my home country.
On the recruits he is targeting to join him at Lincoln:
“There are going to be a number of guys I will help recruit, but some guys I already know right now are – Carter Nelson, Grant Brix, Isaiah McMorris, Gatlin Bair, Jacory Barney and Caleb Pyfrom.”
Kaelin’s message to Nebraska fans:
“My message to Nebraska fans is that I am thrilled to be a part of the deep and rich tradition at the University of Nebraska. I will put everything I have into this program and it is a success.”
