Democrats fear losing Latino voters clearer than ever

Democrats’ fears of losing an even larger segment of the Hispanic and Latino voting bloc have been real for the past three election cycles, but their nightmare could become a stark reality midterm 2022, in just over a year. a month.

MSNBC contributor Paola Ramos is sounding the alarm that Latinos are “moving away from the Democratic Party,” but whether the DNC will listen to why is a completely different question.

During a recent appearance on “Morning Joe,” Ramos previewed an upcoming episode of his show on the subject, saying that “The big picture is that Latinas have been sending a message for four years.”

Ramos explained that going back to the 2020 election, “Donald Trump has won seven of 14 [counties] along the US-Mexico border, and he was able to turn two over and he made major inroads in places like the Rio Grande Valley.

Additionally, Ramos highlighted the historic special election victory that propelled Rep. Mayra Flores to be the first Republican elected to this district in many decades: “Three Latino Republicans from South Texas running in elections that completely transform the dynamics of politics in Texas,” Ramos said.

This certainly lines up with Becky Noble from The Political Insider, who followed the story three republican women on the border; Mayra Flores, Adrienne Pena-Garza and Hilda Garza-DeShazo.

“We’re not trying to say Republicans win the Latino national vote,” Ramos continued. “We say the Democrats are losing. Latinos are sending a message and we need to listen.

Ramos also added that “immigration has really never been a major issue for Latinos. And I think that’s the myth. The myth is that if you talk about migrants, you know, if you show those stories, then Latinas will vote for you. It’s not true. Latinas care about the economy, they care about crime, they care about jobs, they care about education. That’s it.

“They wanted to be spoken to and spoken to the same way Democrats would come out for any other vote.”

Ramos is not alone in this latest observation either.

Legendary Democratic strategist James Carville was returning to the same point For years :

“What went wrong was a stupid wake up call. Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean this “defunding the police” madness, this removal of Abraham Lincoln’s name from schools, people see that. And it really has a suppressive effect across the country on Democrats. »

What Latino voters are saying

In a interview with Latino voters in Texas recently, NewsNation has gained insight that supports Ramos’ claims that Latinas in particular are being disenfranchised with the Democratic Party.

“I remember when I was a little kid and I asked my mom, ‘What’s a Democrat and what’s a Republican?’ She turned around and looked at me and said, ‘Mija, Democrats are for the poor and Republicans are for the rich and we’re poor, so we’re Democrats,’ said two-time voter Lydia Dominguez. ‘Obama, born in Mexico but came to the United States to join the Air Force and raise her two sons.

“I didn’t know I was conservative until I really looked at myself and my values, and said I didn’t believe it,” Dominguez said. “I no longer believe in this movement.

Like many Latino voters, Dominguez is not a supporter of the Democrats’ extreme positions on access to abortion until birth, as well as the extreme issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ movement and their attempt to completely distort traditional family values. .
