Five stars Jadyn Davis has been navigating the recruiting process since entering high school and now it’s finally over. Charlotte (NC) quarterback Providence Day has just announced his long-awaited commitment to Michigan. Davis sat down with Rivals.com to explain the main reasons behind his commitment and what Michigan fans can expect going forward.
“Me and Coach Harbaugh kind of clicked instantly,” Davis said. “Obviously Coach Harbaugh comes across as a different guy at the start. I’d walk through a brick wall for Coach Harbaugh. He keeps it brutally honest. I’m big on confidence and he’s never lied to me. He was always straight and honest with me. He was nothing but loyal to me. My whole family was blessed to be there and it was great. Firstly, my relationship with JJ McCarthy was one that is somewhat unmatched. He’s a guy who’s gonna be my brother for life. I’m just happy to be done with this process. I am blessed and grateful to be able to call myself Wolverine.
“I hope to make this recruiting class one of the best, if not the best class in the country,” he said. “It all starts with the players. You can have the best coaches, but if you don’t have the players who connect on and off the pitch and the guys who can go out there and run with each other , you really have nothing”. Forget coaches signing kids, it starts with players signing players. This is what we have seen to be the most successful. I want the best receivers in the country. I want it Jeremiah Smiths. I want it JoJo Traders. I want it ryan wingos. I want guys like my teammates Channing Goodwin And Jordan Shipp. I want every one of these guys. I will do my best to get them. I also want guys on the defensive side of the ball because a good attack is not good without a good defense that allows them to get the ball back, so I try to build a complete team. That’s what I’m going to try to do my best to bring Michigan a national championship. That’s what these fans deserve. That’s all they expected.
“I have a good feeling for a few guys,” Davis said. “Me and my teammates have been thinking about playing together. Me and Channing have been playing together since middle school. Shipp and I played together last year and he’s a brother of mine. Me and those guys are Lovebirds I want the biggest fish on the pond.
“They call Big David (Sanders) my bodyguard,” he said. “I don’t think you can beat Coach Moore and Michigan, having won the Joe Moore Award for the past two years. It’s like the Heisman offensive line. I don’t know where else you would want to go with them to get this award two years in a row. It’s obviously his decision but I’m going to push him hard. I am so excited about the player he has become. He’s such a humble young man. He will one day be a first-round draft pick. I never have to worry about my safety in the pocket when I’m with Dave.”
Davis is a special talent and it’s rare for Michigan to land five-star quarterbacks. In fact, Davis would only be the third five-star quarterback to sign with Michigan. He has great arm strength and proven accuracy. Last season, Davis threw for 3,425 yards with a 72.5 completion percentage and a 43-6 touchdown to interception ratio. He places the ball when only his receivers can reach it and gives them a chance to pick up yards after the catch. Davis is only 6 feet tall, but he has the mobility and awareness to evade defenders in the pocket or tuck the ball in and pick up chunks of yards.
As he noted above, Davis is now focused on recruiting for Michigan and he’s already off to a good start. He was instrumental in convincing Jordan Marshall and Ben Roebuck to sign up and he will continue to focus on bringing in major prospects to help the Wolverines weather the bump.
