Ford is recalling more than 1.5 million vehicles in the United States in two actions to repair leaky brake hoses and wiper arms that may break.
The larger of the two recalls affects nearly 1.3 million Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ mid-size cars from 2013 to 2018. The company said in documents released Friday by safety regulators that front brake hoses can rupture and leak brake fluid. This would increase brake pedal travel and lengthen stopping distances.
Dealers will replace the hoses. Ford will send notification letters to owners beginning April 17. They will get a second letter once the parts are available for the fix.
Owners who experience problems should call their dealership, Ford said. Some parts are already available for repairs. The company said that only around 2% of vehicles will have brake hose leaks.
Ford said it was aware of an accident without mentioning any injuries from the issue.
The second recall affects more than 222,000 F-150 pickup trucks from 2021. Windshield wiper arms may break.
Dealers will replace the arms if necessary. Owners will be notified as of March 27.
