Six former Yorkshire players and coaches – including Gary Ballance and Tim Bresnan – have been fined and suspended by the Cricket Disciplinary Committee (CDC) for “alleged use of racist and/or discriminatory language”.
Yorkshire County Cricket Club will find out what penalties they will face on June 27. Yorkshire admitted four counts, including “failure to address the systemic use of racist and/or discriminatory language over a prolonged period”.
The six people can appeal the sanctions.
CDC sanctions in full:
- Gary Ballance – a six-match suspension (which will take effect if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a player) and a £3,000 fine. Mr Ballance is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return in cricket as a player or coach.
- John Blain – a fine of £2,500. Mr. Blain is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return. in cricket as a player or coach.
- Tim Bresnan – a three-match ban (which will take effect if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a player) and a £4,000 fine. Mr. Bresnan is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return. in cricket as a player or coach.
- Andrew Gale – a four-week ban from cricket coaching (which will take effect if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a coach) and a £6,000 fine. Mr. Gale is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return. in cricket as a player or coach.
- Matthew Hoggard – a fine of £4,000. Mr. Hoggard is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return. in cricket as a player or coach.
- Richard Pyrah – a two-week suspension from cricket coaching (which will take effect if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a coach) and a £2,500 fine. Mr. Pyrah is also formally reprimanded, along with a strong recommendation from the CDC to undertake an appropriate racism/discrimination education course identified by the ECB, at his own expense, particularly if he intends to return. in cricket as a player or coach.
Earlier in May, the ECB recommended fines totaling £37,000 for players charged in the Yorkshire racism scandal.
