Last year, China’s trade relationship with Africa reached a record $282 billion (£226 billion), according to data from China Customs. This marked an 11% increase from a year earlier as prices for commodities such as oil, copper, cobalt and iron ore surged. It also means that trade between Africa and China is almost four times greater than trade between the United States and Africa, which amounted to $72.6 billion.
