The only team that could have figured out how the Guardians felt Friday was probably the one that delivered Cleveland a frustrating loss
THE Guardians will be looking to bounce back from a 10-9 loss in 10 sets when they visit the New York food Saturday mid-game of a three-game series
Rookie Tanner Bibee (1-1, 3.22 ERA) is expected to start for the Guardians against Max Scherzer (3-2, 4.88) in a battle of right-handers
Former Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor capped a spectacular Dishes comeback Friday when he delivered the starting single in the 10th inning, closing out a three-run inning
THE Guardianswho scored third-fewest in baseball, appeared to be heading for an easy win behind a much-needed offensive outburst when they took a 5-0 lead as Cal Quantrill got a hit in the fifth inning
However, Quantrill came out with two outs in the sixth and in Guardians‘ led at 5-3 after solo homers from Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty and an RBI single from Jeff McNeil. Cleveland designated hitter Josh Naylor, who hit a three-run homer in the first, hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh.
THE Dishes stormed in the bottom of the seventh as he charged the no outs against Sam Hentges before Pete Alonso hit a game-tying grand slam against James Karinchak. Gabriel Arias gave the Guardians a short-lived lead by hitting a two-run homer high in the 10th before New York rallied for the win over closer Emmanuel Clase
THE Guardianswho scored nine or more points for only the third time this season, lost by scoring at least nine points for the first time since falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-10 on June 18, 2021
“We didn’t play much in front” Guardians said manager Terry Francona. “It wasn’t enough tonight, but it’s still a better way to play.
THE Dishes opened May by losing 11 of their first 16 games, a streak in which they scored three or fewer times nine times, but also lost five games in which they scored at least five points
However, the New York Bats began to churn during a three-game winning streak that began Wednesday, when Alonso capped a comeback from three multi-run deficits with a home run of three runs to give New York an 8-7, 10-inning victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Alonso has managed each of the last four games, a period in which the Dishes went deep 10 times. New York has only seven home runs in 12 games ending Monday
“For us, it’s not just a moment,” Alonso said. “It’s an accumulation of a bunch of different things. It’s like dominoes – one thing has to fall into place, then once one falls, they all fall.”
Bibee did not consider the decision on Sunday, when he allowed a run on a career-high 7 2/3 innings as the Guardians beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3. He will oppose the Dishes for the first time
Scherzer picked up a win on Sunday after giving up one run in five innings as the Dishes defeated the Washington Nationals 8-2. In 20 career starts against Cleveland, Scherzer is 9-5 with a 4.25 ERA
