Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) watched House Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene treat insurgents like celebrities during a DC jail visit.
Video of Rep. Garcia on MSNBC Deadline: White House:
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) said Marjorie Taylor Greene was lying about how insurgents were being treated, and “The worst part is seeing detainees, Republicans rushing at them like they’re celebrities, talked to them, patting them on the back.” pic.twitter.com/oRnsX1n0Zu

Garcia said:
It was hard to see. At the end of the day, we were there. We saw the insurgents who attacked the Capitol, and those are the people who injured countless law enforcement officials, tried to overthrow our democracy, so being there was tough. The worst thing is seeing the inmates, Republicans rushing up to them like they’re celebrities, talking to them, patting them on the back, interacting with them. They showed no remorse. These are people who are treated fairly fairly.
These are people who have access to medical care around the clock. They have tablets for entertainment. Obviously being treated by people who are there with their needs. They can communicate with their family. They have done a tremendous harm to our country, so to see Marjorie Taylor Greene going to the media and lying about the terrible conditions is not true.

Two Oversight Committee Democrats toured the DC jail for the express purpose of correcting Republican lies. The Republican Oversight Committee trip was another promise made by Kevin McCarthy to Marjorie Taylor Greene and other right-wing extremists so he could be elected president.
It must have been very disturbing for Rep. Garcia to have to watch Republicans treat domestic terrorists like heroes. Many DC prison insurgents committed acts of violence or actively participated in the plot to overthrow the government.
Insurgents are not heroes. They are not political prisoners. Many Americans would call them domestic terrorists, and the fact that they are glorified by House Republicans demonstrates that American democracy remains under active threat.
