Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman and Aliyah and Absorption Minister Pnina Tamano-Shata will present to the cabinet on Sunday a plan costing NIS 90 million, which will be granted unconditionally, to bring in and host Russians allowed to immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return. Following the mobilization of reserve troops announced by Russia last week for the war in Ukraine, Israel expects an increase in immigration from Russia with around 4,500 Jews reaching Israel from there over the course of each of the next three months.
At a meeting today, senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jewish Agency for Israel said there had been a huge increase in the number of Russian Jews who already hold papers to immigrate to Israel and in applications for immigration papers.
On the other hand, there are major obstacles to the arrival of these immigrants to Israel, which will require creative solutions, including the sharp increase in airfares between Russia and Israel and the limited number of El Al flights on the routes. between Russia and Tel Aviv.
The government is examining options for additional flights or alternatively to bring to Israel via a third country that shares a common border with Russia, such as Azerbaijan or Georgia, which still have regular flights to Israel.
The plan for Russian immigrants includes solutions for housing, employment, health services, education and more.
Tamano-Shata said, “The State of Israel serves as a refuge for all Jews in the world, including Jews from Russia. We will ensure that all immigrants from Russia who come here due to complicated circumstances receive a complete and appropriate package. better integrate them into Israeli society.”
Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman said, “The State of Israel is making every effort to bring as many immigrants to Israel as possible. The Ministry of Finance that I lead will spare no resources in order to allow immigration to Israel for all who are eligible. and wants to come and will invest in a quality and efficient integration process. Immigration is a strategic asset for the State and a lever for massive growth, and we are committed to encouraging and investing in it.
