Chairman Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans have pulled out of debt limit talks because they say the conversations are not productive.
“We’ve decided to press pause because it’s just not productive,” Graves told reporters on Capitol Hill as he left a meeting that began around 10 a.m. Friday. He was joined by House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry (RNC).
A White House official acknowledged that a hiccup had occurred without indicating that either party had pulled out of the table: “There are real differences between the parties on budget issues. and the talks will be difficult. The President’s team is working hard toward a reasonable bipartisan solution that can pass the House and Senate.
This code is not productive for Democrats, and the White House refuses to agree to the kind of cuts that House Republicans are demanding.
The script flipped. Biden and the Democrats are at the negotiating table, while the Republicans are jeopardizing the American economy by walking away.
House Republicans were delusional if they really believed Democrats would go along with the cuts they demanded. It was never going to happen.
House Republicans could end this crisis tomorrow by passing a clean increase in the debt ceiling. Blame Biden and the Democrats’ game backfired.
