The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes.
Via a press release from ICC:
Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born October 7, 1952, President of the Russian Federation, is allegedly responsible for the war crime of illegal deportation of population (children) and illegal transfer of population (children) from the occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation (under Articles 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii) of the Rome Statute). The crimes were allegedly committed in occupied Ukrainian territory at least from February 24, 2022.
There are reasonable grounds to believe that Mr. Putin bears individual criminal responsibility for the above-mentioned crimes, (i) for having committed the acts directly, jointly with others and/or through others (Article 25( 3)(a) of the Rome Statute), and (ii) for his failure to exercise adequate control over the civilian and military subordinates who committed the acts, or permitted them to be committed, and who were under his authority and its effective control, by virtue of the responsibility of the hierarchical superior (article 28(b) of the Rome Statute).
Sarah Jones discussed Russian and Republican war crimes endangering national security in the latest Politicus Pod:
MAGA’s reaction to the news that their hero Putin is a wanted war criminal was crickets.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted Biden’s conspiracy theories and his support for the 1/6 Domestic Terrorist, while Donald Trump said nothing about his dark, damp internet basement known as Truth Social .
MAGA has allied itself with a war criminal who commits crimes against children. The international arrest warrant means that Putin will be further isolated because traveling to any country that is part of the ICC treaty will mean arrest.
Putin is a wanted war criminal and MAGA’s support for him means they enable crimes against children.
