Northern Diamonds beat Southern Vipers to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at Lord’s on Sunday.
After losing to the defending champions Vipers twice before in the Finals, Diamonds dethroned them this year at the third attempt.
In a thrilling final, the Diamonds won by two points to secure their first title.
Northern Diamonds Celebrate
They scored 215 for nine wickets, with their top scorer Lauren Winfield-Hill making 65 runs on 87 balls.
His opening position of 87 with Linsey Smith, who herself reached 27 overall, provided the base for the team with Bess Heath and Leah Dobson further down the order at 44 and 34 respectively.
Georgia Adams of the Vipers took three wickets for 34 runs and Paige Scholfield two for 36.
With bat in hand, Adams scored 70 points and Maia Bouchier hit 48, but going 213-9 overall, the Vipers finished just two points off the Diamonds’ total.
“Being able to turn things around, fall in love with the game again and take the pressure off myself was the best part of it. I loved every game and that reflected in the way I played,” said Winfield Hill. afterwards.
“We’ve come close to the Vipers a few times now and we’ve got a few injuries against them.
“I’m shocked to pieces.”
