Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) predicted the 2024 presidential election wouldn’t be close because Trump’s responses to CNN’s mayoralty were a goldmine for Democrats.
Representative Lieu tweeted:
Donald Trump on national television doubled down on his decision to take away women’s right to choose.
The election will not be close. Trump will, once again, lose Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Georgia.
The abortion issue will crush Trump and the Republicans.
It’s not complicated. https://t.co/42A4wUJG46

Some people think the town hall was a debacle for CNN. But it was definitely a gold mine for @JoeBiden and Democrats. We will be highlighting several statements by Donald Trump at City Hall between now and November. This presidential election will not be close. https://t.co/PCkSHMJl0U

Few Americans would have watched a town hall on CNN.
But many Americans will now see the sick things Donald Trump said because @JoeBiden and Democrats will absolutely use clips from this town hall in ads across America. https://t.co/bTrQgCWPGO

America now knows, after nearly eight years of exposing Trump, that the former president doesn’t just say things to get votes. He truly believes in and will follow through on things like a national abortion ban and help Russia take control of Ukraine. Trump will destroy democracy in the United States. These are things that will happen if Trump returns to the White House.
Representative Lieu was right. CNN’s Town Hall has been seen by a tiny fraction of those who will vote in the 2024 general election. Exponentially more 2024 voters will see and hear all the ads Democrats will make of the appearance of Trump on CNN.
Democrats will also use Trump’s words against the 2024 Republican House and Senate candidates.
Trump has always been the gift that keeps giving to Democrats. The chances of him returning to the White House after losing in 2020 were already not great, and the former president gave the Democrats a big head start with an appearance at the town hall that should remind voters why he is unfit for the White House.
