For just over a hundred years, the United States and its dearest friends across the pond have been the world’s beacons, acting as the last word on international matters. Keeping our fingers on the pulse of the global economy, trade, treaties, international memberships and power struggles in Third World countries, the United States has mostly tipped the balance one way or another. another on each question.
However, that may be coming to an end. The quiet and patient dragon of the East was waiting to leap onto the world stage and replace the West as the engine of world leadership.
Has the day come when China will take its place as a serious global superpower? Is the United States no longer the “big man” on campus?
Recent events have certainly shown that the balance of world power has shifted to the East.
A little dishonest of Mike Pompeo to say that Ukraine is a “China-Russia” problem. The involvement of the United States in this proxy war with Russia was what forced the China-Russia embrace. This emboldens and strengthens China, which is the real threat to the United States and its allies.

A New World Order?
Chinese President Xi Jinping recently made a trip to see China’s enemy, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The purpose of this meeting according to the two villains the West loves to hate is:
“acceleration of the process of establishing a multipolar world order.”
Oh boy, that’s quite the mission statement, a multipolar world order, which seems ominous.
According to a statement of the Chinese government after the visit, the two leaders:
“Shared the view that this relationship has gone far beyond the bilateral scope and has acquired crucial importance for the global landscape and the future of humanity.”
That says a lot of nothing of great substance, which is very ‘Western’ of them. What an incredibly European-American statement of ethereal peace and prosperity without touching anything tangible.
Leaving, President Xi said President Putin:
“Right now there are changes like we haven’t seen in 100 years. And we are driving these changes together.
Chinese President Xi to Putin:
“A change that hasn’t happened for 100 years is coming."

So what kind of change is Xi referring to?

Make it rain Yuan
In addition to the 14 economic agreements signed, from scientific cooperation to the joint production of television programs, the two leaders spoke at length about the Chinese yuan.
President Putin said:
“We support the use of the Chinese yuan for settlements between Russia and countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.”
Let me emphasize…the United States derives huge and incalculable benefits from having the world’s reserve currency. Any threat to this status should be the loudest alarm bell. And if the dollar were to be replaced, this would have enormous consequences.

While acting as if it were a neutral party between Russia and Ukraine, China has been a major buyer of Russian oil since the start of the war, essentially keeping Russia alive even as the West claims to have ruled out Russia.
Mr. Putin continued:
“I am convinced that these forms of implantation in Yuan will develop between Russian partners and their counterparts in third countries.”
I have no doubt that Russia will ensure that its partners adopt any policy Xi tells them, which was precisely the purpose of this trip to Moscow. For example, while Xi recently presented a 12-point peace plan between Russia and Ukraine, the two leaders said very little about Ukraine. Instead, most of the trip focused on economics and trade.
As the West continues to focus on military engagements and climate change, China has its sights set on what really makes the world go round…money. However, this does not mean that China has not flexed its diplomatic muscles.

Bringer of peace?
Widely praised even by the West, China recently helped restore ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia. These two enemies support rival camps in numerous international conflicts, from Yemen to Syria and from Lebanon to Iraq.
While the US government has spent decades pitting the two against each other, China has stepped in and brokered peace as easily as you want.
This decision by China responds to three priorities. First, it allows China to pretend to the rest of the world that the United States and Europe no longer need to be the sole heralds of peace. Second, it allows China to have a hand in two Middle Eastern powers as they carve up their neighboring puppet states.
Third, it puts two of the world’s largest oil producers, including one formerly in US orbit, firmly in China’s camp.
Like Dina Esfandiary of the International Crisis Group explain:
“The potential downside of that, of course, is that they’re the ones dividing the region and sorting things out among themselves, you start to lose sight of regional contexts and grievances, which could potentially be problematic.”
Thanks to China, Iran and Saudi Arabia are shaping the greater Middle East in their image, providing a whole sandbox for China.
In a chilling tweet, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollhian writing:
“The return to normal relations between Tehran and Riyadh offers great opportunities for both countries, the region and the Muslim world.
So what is the US doing about all of this? A lot of nothing, if there’s even something wecan do at this point.
President Trump: "Thus, China is developing an alliance between Iran and Saudi Arabia. China is taking over the Middle East and no one even knew what was going on. All of this happened under Biden’s watch."

A slow death
When asked what he thinks of the rapprochement between China and Russia lately, President Joe Biden said:
“Listen, listen, I don’t take China lightly. I don’t take Russia lightly, but I think we are overreacting enormously.

Whew, I feel better already, Uncle Joe! After all, it’s not like your administration is known for underestimating situations.
That is, except for how quickly the Afghan government would fall, the chances of Ukraine fighting Russia, the invasion on our southern border, the prevalence of spy balloons over our country, and countless other situations.
My favorite part of this whole story is that Ukrainian President and benefactor of billions of taxpayer dollars Volodymyr Zelensky said:
“We have offered China to become a partner in implementing the peace formula.”
I can’t blame the guy; you might as well get as many of the big boys on the field as possible vying for world domination. Perhaps the Biden administration is also welcoming China’s entry onto the world stage.

After all, it’s Biden’s energy secretary, Jennifer Granholm, who said Chinese climate change initiatives:
“We can all learn from what China is doing…”
Of course, 30% of the world’s CO2 emissions come from China, but they certainly know how to lead by example when it comes to climate change.
I’ll leave you with that, President Xi said:
“We hope the strategic partnership between China and Russia will uphold international fairness and justice on the one hand, and promote our countries’ common prosperity and development on the other.”
To underestimate China or to assume its moves are exaggerated is folly. If there’s one thing the ancient Chinese civilization is good at, it’s the long game, and we’re losing it.
